Please be alert to these two scams that are currently targeting Kent residents by phone and text message.

Openreach Scam Phone Call

  • You receive a call from criminals claiming to be from Openreach.
  • You are told there is a problem with the broadband in your area.

The criminal asks you to log on to your computer and download ‘specialist software’.

What to do:

  • Hang up the phone!
  • Do not log on and do not download any software.
  • Openreach will never contact you directly, unless you have contract work that you are aware of, confirmed in writing.
  • They will never ask for personal details or remote access to your router or computer.
  • Report to Action Fraud, or call 0300 123 2040.

Please warn vulnerable family members, friends and neighbours.

Scam PayPal Mobile Text Message

How it works:

  • You receive a text message saying it is from PayPal
  • The scam message says there has been unusual activity on your account
  • You are told to click on a link in the message

What to do:

  • Do not click on the link!
  • Log onto your PayPal account to check for any unusual activity
  • Read about phishing scams on the PayPal website
  • Report the scam to Action Fraud 0300 123 2040 or online

Please warn vulnerable family members, friends and neighbours.
